Šilo is a small, tourist village situated on the north-east side of the island of Krk, municipal area of Dobrinj. It is situated in Stipanja bay, protected by the cape „Punta Šila“. Town Crikvenica is right across the sea, divided by the „Vinodolski“ channel that is only 4.6 km wide, and connected by the taxi motorboats and tourist, excursion boats.
It is ideal for quiet, family vacations, but also for an active vacation because there in Šilo you can find volleyball and tennis courts, water polo, football and basketball court, and nearby there are also hiking and bycicle paths (one of them is a path to the remains of the ancient roman remainings, just a few kilometers from Šilo). Diving especially stands out because of the underwater remains of the greek ship „Peltastis“ near Šilo, a favourite scubadiving location. There are also organized excursions to the mainland, the riviera and the other islands nearby.
Šilo is well known by the clean, transparent sea, pebble and rocky beaches, beaches with childrens facilities, a dog beach and a sandy beach which is assigned with the international Blue flag. Just a few kilometers from Šilo is the Soline bay, known for the healing mud and Biserujka cave which is about 110 meters long.
Šilo has always been a fishing village, so there are weekly festivities („ribarska fešta“), that attract both tourists and locals with local food and music. Day of the village of Šilo is 16th of august, on the day of saint Roko, when there is organized an all day long programme such as brass band, pulling out of the fishing net called „migavica“, water polo match, and, of course, a party/festivity in the evening which culminates with a spectacular fireworks show.
Besides that, you can try local food and drinks in Šilo’s restaurants and bars.
